The Grosse Pointe Historical Society

The Grosse Pointe Historical Society (GPHS) was founded in 1945 to preserve and protect the rich local heritage of all five Grosse Pointes and neighboring communities, and share it with the public. GPHS works to make history of our area vital, relevant, and accessible. Through programs, facilities and events, GPHS brings history to life, protects historic artifacts, and collects and shares Grosse Pointe-area stories.

Grosse Pointe Historical Society Campus

Provencal-Weir House and Log Cabin
GPHS purchased and restored the c. 1823 Provencal-Weir House on Kercheval Avenue. The oldest structure in the Pointes, it is a ribbon-farm house which originally stood near the shore of Lake Saint Clair. The building is used as a living history museum for programs and educational activities. The grounds feature a c. 1840 log cabin moved from Macomb County.

Grosse Pointe History Center
The Grosse Pointe History Center, opened in 2022, features 5000 square feet of purpose-built space for exhibits, events, displays, administration, and collections. It incorporates the Alfred B. and Ruth S. Moran Resource Center.
